Shop website

Build your shop's website with drag-and-drop sections made for auto shops, free icons and photos, your Google reviews and search settings, connect it to a free address or your own domain, and get its appointment requests and messages in Needs Attention.

Last updated · For General Managers (building), Advisors, Service Managers and General Managers (requests)

Every shop can have one website. You build it in TEKTUNE, TEKTUNE puts it online on Hostinger, and what customers send from it - appointment requests and questions - shows up in Needs Attention for your advisors.

Open Shop Settings > Website. Building it is the Shop website permission (General Managers as standard; Administrators always); getting its requests is Website requests (Advisors, Service Managers and General Managers). Change either in Roles. It's the Shop Website module - on for every shop, and it can be switched off in Modules. The Needs Attention tab stays out of the way while you're in the website builder.

Start your website

  1. Click Start my website and pick a look - Garage, Clean, Classic or Performance.
  2. TEKTUNE makes five pages - Home, Services, About, Book and Contact - and fills in your shop's name, address, phone, email, opening hours and logo from Shop Settings > Shop. Change any of it.

Everything saves by itself as you go (the bar at the top says when). Nothing is on the internet until you publish.

  • Page - which page you're working on.
  • Computer / Phone - see the preview at either size. Every website works on phones.
  • Preview - opens the website as a visitor will see it, in its own tab, with the latest changes. The link works for 2 hours without signing in, so you can open it on your phone or send it to someone to look at. Forms on the preview don't send anything.
  • Connect to Site... - shows until the website has an address, and walks you through the steps (see Connect to Site). Once it's connected the button becomes Publish.
  • Publish / Publish changes - puts the website, with every change, on the internet. It says Published ✓ when the website matches what you see. Next to it are the website's address (click to open it) and Address, to see the connection steps again.

Pages and sections

The left side has three tabs - Page, Site & style and SEO & sharing. The right side is a live preview.

  • Click a section in the list or the preview to change its words, photos, icons, buttons and colors.
  • Drag sections up and down the list to reorder them, or drag a new one from Add a section onto the list or straight onto the preview. Clicking one adds it at the end.
  • Each section can be duplicated, hidden (kept but not shown) or deleted.
  • Sections for auto shops: hero banner, services with prices, about, why choose us, customer reviews, specials & coupons, appointment request form, contact form, hours & map, photo gallery, questions & answers, our team, numbers, makes we service, call to action, and plain text, image, video and spacer.

+ Page adds a page (up to 20). Page settings sets its name, address, whether it's in the menu, its title and description in search results, its picture when shared, and Hide this page from search engines. A page can also be made the home page, or deleted.

Photos

Every picture has two buttons:

  • Upload - a JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF or SVG from your computer. Photos are made smaller for the web by themselves.
  • Free photos - search openly licensed photos (from Openverse: Wikimedia Commons, Flickr and others) that may be used on a business website. Car topics are one click away - auto repair, brakes, tires, oil change and more. Click a photo to use it. The photographer and license are listed at the bottom of your website, as those licenses ask.

Icons

Services and "why choose us" items each have an icon. Pick one of the built-in icons, or:

  • + More - search free icon sets (Material Design Icons, Material Symbols, Tabler, Lucide, Phosphor and Carbon - all free to use on a business website) and click one to add it.
  • Upload SVG (in Site & style > Your icons) - your own icon as an SVG file, up to 200 KB.

Every icon is cleaned up and resized to fit when it's added: anything a website can't safely show is removed, and a one-color icon takes your site's colors. An icon with several colors keeps its own. Icons you add are listed under Your icons (up to 60) and show in every icon picker; remove one with its ×.

Google reviews

In a Customer reviews section, set Reviews come from to Your Google reviews (live):

  1. The first time, paste your shop's Google key and click Save (see Your Google key below).
  2. Under Your shop on Google, check the name and town and click Find.
  3. Click your shop in the results.
  4. Choose the lowest star rating to show (4 stars as standard) and how many reviews (up to 5).

The section shows your Google rating with a link to all your reviews and a Write a review link, and your best recent reviews. They update by themselves - Google shares the 5 reviews it thinks are most relevant, so not every review can appear. They show with "Reviews from Google" under them, as Google requires. Change picks a different place. Without a Google key, choose The reviews typed below and type reviews in yourself.

Your Google key

Live reviews come from Google's Places API, using your shop's own key. Google bills the lookups to your shop's Google account, not to TEKTUNE - see Google's Places API pricing for the free monthly amount. TEKTUNE keeps a shop's reviews for an hour between lookups. To get a key:

  1. Sign in to the Google Cloud console (console.cloud.google.com) and create a project for your shop. Google asks for a billing account on it.
  2. Open APIs & Services > Library, search for Places API (New) and click Enable.
  3. Open APIs & Services > Credentials, click Create credentials > API key and copy the key (it starts with AIza).
  4. Click the key to edit it. Under API restrictions choose Restrict key and tick only Places API (New). Leave Application restrictions at None - TEKTUNE makes the lookups, not your website.
  5. Paste the key in the reviews section and click Save.

Once saved, the builder only shows the key's last four characters. Remove key takes it out of TEKTUNE; live reviews then stop showing on the website until a key is added again. To stop Google charging anything, also delete the key in the Google Cloud console.

Site & style

  • Your business - name, tagline, phone, email, address, opening hours and logo. Left empty, each one comes from Shop Settings > Shop (shown greyed out) and follows it when it changes there. Type something only to show something different on the website.
  • Look - starting look, colors and fonts.
  • Header - the menu bar style (see Menu bar styles), its color, whether it stays at the top while scrolling, whether it shows the phone number, and a header button (for example Book now).
  • Announcement bar - a line above the header, for example a holiday closing.
  • Footer, the Call now button on phones, Social links and Your icons.

Under Site & style > Header, click a picture to choose how the menu bar at the top of every page looks. The preview changes straight away.

The menu bar styles in Site & style, with Side bubbles picked
  • Classic bar - logo on the left, menu on the right.
  • Logo on top - the logo in the middle with the menu under it.
  • Logo in the middle - half the menu on each side of the logo. On smaller laptops the phone number is left out so everything fits.
  • Floating bubble - a rounded bar floating over the page.
  • Side bubbles - the logo and the menu each in their own rounded bubble.
  • Over the photo - see-through over the page's banner photo, turning solid once the visitor scrolls (with Stays at the top while scrolling on). Pages that don't start with a banner get the classic bar.
  • Menu button - just the logo and a menu button; the menu fills the screen when it's opened.
  • Side menu - the menu down the left side of the page on computers.

On phones every style turns into the logo and a menu button, so the website stays easy to use.

SEO & sharing

How the website shows up on Google and when someone shares it. The box at the top shows roughly how it looks in Google's results.

  • Site description - one or two sentences about the shop. Google shows about 155 characters. Each page can have its own in Page settings.
  • Kind of business (auto repair shop, tire shop, body shop...), Price range and Towns and areas you serve - TEKTUNE tells Google these together with your address, phone, opening hours and map location.
  • Site icon - the little picture in the browser tab and on a phone's home screen. Empty = your logo. A square picture works best; TEKTUNE makes every size needed.
  • Picture when the site is shared - what Facebook, texts and chats show. Empty = the home page's banner photo, else your logo. 1200 × 630 works best.
  • Let search engines show the website - untick to ask Google and Bing to leave the whole website out of their results (for example while it isn't finished).
  • Language, and optional Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster codes (to prove the website is yours there) and a Google Analytics ID.

Every published website also gets a sitemap, a robots file, page titles and descriptions, sharing tags and a secure (https) address.

Connect to Site

Click Connect to Site... at the top right. A window walks you through it:

  1. Choose the address - a Free address (something like brave-wrench-123.hostingersite.com), or My own domain (type it, like yourshop.com). Click Connect my website.
  2. Hostinger sets up the website - this takes a few minutes. You can close the window and keep designing; the button at the top says Connecting..., then Publish when it's ready.
  3. With your own domain: point your domain at Hostinger. Sign in where you bought it (the window has steps for GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace, Cloudflare and Hostinger), find its nameservers and change them to the two shown. Then click Check my domain. It can take up to a day to start working everywhere.
  4. Publish - from the window or the button at the top.

A shop has one website. If the window says Website hosting isn't connected for TEKTUNE yet, ask TEKTUNE support - you can keep building the website meanwhile.

Publish

Click Publish. Later changes stay in TEKTUNE until you click Publish changes. Once a website is published, TEKTUNE also asks Hostinger for its secure (https) certificate.

Requests from the website

When a customer sends the appointment form or the contact form, everyone with Website requests gets a notification and a green card in Needs Attention. Click it to see who it's from, how to reach them (phone and email are links), their vehicle and what they asked. Call or write back, then click Dismiss - on the card or in the window - and the card goes away for everyone.

  • A request is a request - nothing is booked by itself. Put the appointment in your shop management system.
  • Spam protection: forms filled in by robots, too fast or too often from one place are dropped.
